Visa has announced that the Kenyan HR and payroll management firm Workpay is one of the startups that has been inducted into its Africa Fintech Accelerator programme, iAfrica reports.
Launched in 2023 as part of Visa’s pledge to invest $1 billion in financial inclusion in Africa by 2027, the Africa Fintech Accelerator has so far accelerated 45 startups across two cohorts.
Fifteen active partnerships are now reportedly in place.
The 23 startups that took part in Visa’s first programme in 2023 received mentorship, technology credits and opportunities to connect with potential investors during demo day. Only four were selected for strategic investment from Visa.
The chosen startups were Workpay; Oze, a Ghanaian business banking platform; Orda, a Nigerian restaurant technology startup; and Kenya’s OkHi, an AI-powered address verification service.
