In Nigeria, Ekiti State governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has urged women to actively participate in the 2023 general elections and vote for leaders that can take the country out of its current mess, Guardian.ng reports.

Erelu Elebute-Halle said that the leader the country needs in 2023 and beyond must be one who is selfless, and who loves service to humanity above self. She spoke at the empowerment programme for vulnerable people at Ilasa Ekiti.

At the event, she distributed N50 million cash to aged women, those living with disabilities, orphans and the vulnerable, among others and promised to continue reaching out to the less privileged.

Ms Elebute-Halle was the only female gubernatorial candidate in the last Ekiti 2022 governorship election. She said that women must come out and actively participate in the political process to achieve the desired outcome, using the strength in their numbers.

She said, “I participated in Ekiti governorship election to inspire women, give them hope that they can do it. This is why I am asking them to come out and participate actively in the 2023 general elections. I came fourth in that election, which I contested with 18 men. That should tell you that women are not pushovers.”
