In the last week of December, Italy’s national statistics agency announced that hourly contract salaries in the country had risen in 2018, for the first time in nine years, ANSA.it reports.
ISTAT said that salaries in 2018 had increased by 1.5 per cent "after a period of deceleration that lasted nine years".
The national statistics agency attributed the end of a civil service pay freeze as the driving force of the rise. Public employees' salaries went up by 2.6 per cent. The freeze had been in force since 2010.
