[Spain] Salaries number among lowest in OECD

In common with countries around the globe, Spain is struggling with rising prices due to inflation and job and salary insecurity. But something more is exacerbating the cost of living crisis; the country’s wages stack up poorly against the rest of the world, SmallCapNews reports.

Health insurance company William Russell conducted a study on wages, general working conditions and country benefits. It revealed that Spain has one of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) lowest salaries.

The study reportedly analysed data for 30 countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to determine which countries offer the lowest average salary in the world. Spain ranks at number 10 on this list, followed by countries such as Poland and Estonia. Mexico came in first, as the country with the worst salary in the world.

This data is not good news for Spain, whose average payroll is 37,890 euro (or $40,000) a year. There was a slight improvement for data on general working conditions in Spain; the country came in at 13th place, with better working conditions than countries such as the UK or New Zealand but worse than Germany, Sweden or Italy.

Such data does have relevance for salary because factors like paid annual leave, holidays and maternity leave are more important to jobseekers than ever in these challenging times.
