Aldi has confirmed that thousands of UK workers are set for their second pay rise this year. The increase will see most paid at rates of over £12 an hour, Daily Record reports.

The hourly rate for warehouse workers in Aldi's regional distribution centres across the UK will increase from £11.95 to £12.66. The increase will reportedly come into effect from September and will see Aldi far exceed the National Living Wage of £9.90 an hour.

The supermarket chain has said that around 4,200 colleagues will benefit from the pay rise and that they will see a 9 per cent increase on their January 2022 rates. Aldi currently operates more than 970 stores and 11 regional distribution centres across Britain.

In addition, all warehouse workers who work outside of normal working hours will have their night premium payments increase from 20 per cent to 25 per cent of their normal hourly rate.

The new rates of pay come after an announcement from the German grocery giant confirming that more than 26,000 store colleagues would have their minimum hourly pay increased by 40p from September.

All store colleagues will see their hourly rates of pay increase to £10.50 an hour nationally and those inside the M25 will receive £11.95 an hour.

Giles Hurley - Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland - said, “This announcement recognises the amazing contribution our logistics colleagues make in serving communities across the country.

“We’re also pleased to be able to increase the night premium we pay to our many colleagues who work so hard to keep our stores well-stocked. Their outstanding efforts help ensure that our customers continue to have access to fresh affordable food, every single day.”

The new announcement follows the budget supermarket's annual pay review which came into effect in February and saw pay rates across Aldi’s logistics network increase.
