[Australia] Plutus Payroll founder sentenced for role in fraudulent syndicate

Simon Paul Anquetil - the principal conspirator of the Plutus Payroll tax fraud syndicate and the founder of Plutus Payroll - has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. The Supreme Court of New South Wales gave Mr Anquetil the term for his role as a principal conspirator in a syndicate that is alleged to have defrauded the Commonwealth of more than $105 million over the course of three years.

The fraudulent scheme used payroll services companies to divert pay-as-you-go withholding tax and goods and services tax owed to the ATO. Mr Anquetil pled guilty to the charges against him and was given a non-parole period of five years as part of his sentence.
