Wendy tells us about her rise through the ranks of international payroll and HR.

Current payroll position

I am the Vice President of Sales at Ceridian

The payroll job that launched my career

My first experience with payroll and HR was when I first joined Ceridian running their SME business. I worked closely with the operational team that were based in Glasgow.

Why I chose payroll

Who doesn’t love payroll! We love getting it right and helping our clients have the right technology to fix things quickly. Payroll is about governance, process, accuracy and great data. I’m proud of my team who make sure payroll governance models work and help organisations drive greater efficiencies.

What I'm working on today

I’m in London, engaging customers and meeting like-minded individuals who value great technology to drive better global visibility and reporting on a single platform.

What I bring to international payroll

I bring a wealth of experience working with large global companies, transforming their HR and payroll technology and operational functions. But I’ve got the rigour to understand clients’ requirements, how they differ, what services they are looking for - and how to make that all a reality.

My payroll high point

When I went to a customer based in Texas to meet their HR and global compensation directors. That Friday morning, we ran the first live run for US payroll. Audrey, the US payroll manager, came running into reception hugging and share that for the first time in her 20-year-plus career, she had an employee calling her to thank her for finally getting her payroll right. She explained that that individual often complained about pay. I had to accept the compliment on behalf of our amazing operational and implementation team.

My toughest payroll challenge

Change. Change of compliance, tax rules, keeping up to speed with a world that is faster, more demanding and that is a challenge for every payroll department. Technology and great partnerships help to overcome this challenge. I’m a big believer that change brings opportunity to do things smarter, better and more efficient, which can save time and delight your employees too.

My biggest industry influence

Melanie Pizzey. She does a phenomenal job for global payroll managers across the world. The well-executed events, deep country knowledge and vast network keeps global payroll in ‘front of mind’ for many global organisations. If you have people, you have payroll.

Best payroll innovation

On demand payroll. We have just launched this for our North American customers here at Ceridian and this is revolutionary in the world of payroll. Due to our real time calculation engine, clients’ employees can request their pay mid pay period. This would eradicate the need for pay day loans and allow employees the choice of when they want to get paid.

My payroll ambition

I’m a big believer in choice. I want to see the global payroll market give clients the option for an operational model that is of their choosing, that delivers global excellence, reporting, visibility and compliance in one place, with the operational model that fits the client’s needs.

Payroll five years from now

Watch this space - it’s going to be exciting!
