A 2 day course which teaches you all about UK payroll including the
complicated income tax system, social security system, deductions from
pay, expenses, benefits, reporting, statutory payments and leave.
The course will give you the confidence to be able to check UK payrolls,
answer pay queries, complete the necessary reporting, calculate the
build up to gross pay and the various deductions from pay.
The UK government recognises that the management of pay and the
calculations necessary are complicated and whilst much of the reporting
has been automated there are many different scenarios where each may
require slightly different treatment, which adds further to the
complexities.
The 2 day course incudes:
• Types of payroll
• Build up to gross
• Recurring payments with examples
• One off payments
• Gross pay totals

• Statutory leave and pay including:
o Maternity leave and pay
o Adoption leave and pay
o Paternity leave and pay
o Shared parental leave and pay
o Annual leave and public holidays and payments
o Sickness leave and pay
o Parental leave
o Time off for dependants
o Flexible working
• Income tax (PAYE) – tax codes and allowances, tax periods, Scottish
rate of income tax
• National insurance (NICs) – NI classes and codes, thresholds and
rates, directors’ NI
• Examples of tax and NI calculations using different scenarios
• Salary sacrifice including the changes from 2017
• Other deductions from pay including:
o Pensions
o Deduction form earnings orders (DEOs)
o Attachment from earnings orders (AEOs)
o Student loan
o Voluntary deductions
• National minimum wage including the national living wage
• Running your payroll
• Year end procedures and reporting including P60s, P11Ds, PAYE
settlement agreements (PSAs)
• Closing the tax year and starting the new year
• Auto enrolment for pensions including setting up a scheme, operating
the scheme, reporting, and re-enrolment
• Real time information – statutory online reporting including full payment
submissions(FPS), employer payment summary (EPS), earlier year
