Overview of Payroll in Finland Overview of Payroll in Finland

International markets continue to grow in importance for British companies, and with this growth comes an expansion of compliance requirements. Whether you are sending expatriates into a country or taking on a small local payroll as part of an acquisition or branch opening, your business will need to ensure it meets all of its obligations. Outsourcing the payroll function may seem the best solution, but the company remains legally liable for any mistakes the outsource partner may make. It is therefore important that the end client is aware of what the major tasks are the outsourcer performs on their behalf, the key deadlines that they need to sign off, and how to interpret key reports and payslip information. This one day course focuses on the major payroll rules in Finland.

Attendees will be able to accurately follow a simple pay calculation for each jurisdiction, and should be able to identify all of the key items on a payslip produced in each jurisdiction. You will also be able to:
•Identify all key jurisdiction deadlines
•Understand the penalty regimes and the consequences of getting it wrong
•Have a detailed understanding of the scope of service you are purchasing from an outsource partner
•Identify what information you need to pass to the outsource partner and why you have to provide it

Meet our trainers

My name is Heimo Alatalo and I have been in Finance & Payroll Administration and HR for over 25 years. In this field, in addition to Finland, I have working and consulting experience from many countries including Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Ukraine, Germany and Russia.  During my career I have gained broad experience of versatile business operations starting from self-employed entrepreneurs all the way to global matrix corporations.

I have a Master’s Degree (Finance & Accounting.) from Helsinki School of Economics. I have also worked as a lecturer and trainer in this business field.

Currently as a team director I am managing and consulting financial and payroll processes within our client companies. The main focus is on the foreign companies establishing or having business activities & legal entities in Finland. In payroll and HR matters I work closely with the Finnish tax and other authorities as well as in collective agreement issues with Trade Unions. Currently my team is proving payroll services for appr. 100 companies / business entities. At the very moment my team is assisting clients from more than 15 different countries.

The best achievement is always a positive thank from a satisfied client. Econia and I am happy to have a lot of those! I have now been in Econia three years and Econia’s international operations have during this period tripled.

My name is Mitra Äijälä-Vehmas and I have been in HR for over 15 years.

I have studied in Polytechnic in Business Administration, had an additional training in HR and some University trainings in work law, work psychology and organisation psychology. Now I am studying Masters in Leadership and Service Business (specialisation: law).

All of my HR work has involved directly or indirectly in pay rolling, legal issues, work law or/and collective agreements. Now I am handling one of our large Finnish clients HR and their partly owned companies HR /HRD and being as a contact base for pay rolling issues. Also all international clients request in Econia in PEO services go thru me.

Excellent client service is close to my heart in my work.
