[Bahrain] Government will pay 50% of private-sector employee wages

The Cabinet has approved a proposal for Bahrain’s government to pay 50 per cent of the salaries of insured Bahrainis in private sector enterprises which have been most adversely affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan said the salary support will last for a period of three months, from July, according to a Bahrain News Agency report. 

The Social Insurance Organisation (SIO) will pay the salaries from the Unemployment Insurance Fund. To qualify for the support, Bahraini employees must have been covered by insurance at the end of June 2020 or employed and insured through the National Employment Programme by the end of the month preceding the date of disbursement.
