Overview

Anyone responsible for administering payrolls for schools, colleges and other education providers are faced with an additional array of contractual considerations which require a good working knowledge to successfully navigate.

This course covers in detail the remuneration packages for teachers and non-teachers and details the various allowances and other factors to consider when administering their reward packages, including maternity leave, minimum wage and starters and leavers. The principles and rates for both the Local Government Pension Scheme (LPGS) and Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS) are also explored.

          • Identifying the routes for pay progression for non-teachers
          • Distinguishing inner and outer London Weighting Allowances

          Administering remuneration packages for teachers:

          • Identifying the salary determination and notification requirements for teachers
          • Calculating the pro-rata of salary for part-time teachers
          • Listing the pay spines used for teacher remuneration
          • Summarising the allowances & additional payments applicable for eligible teachers
          • Explaining the processing considerations for starters and leavers for teachers pay

          Administering Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS):

          • Outlining the three types of TPS membership
          • Listing the employee & employer’s rates for TPS
          • Identifying the pensionable pay elements under TPS rules
          • Summarising the annual return completion requirements

          Administering Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS):

          • Listing the employee & employer’s rates for LGPS
          • Identifying the pensionable pay and principles of CARE scheme rules
          • Outlining the principles of the 50/50 scheme option
          • Defining Assumed Pensionable Pay (APP)

          Summarising the maternity pay and leave rules:

          • Fiona Smith

            Before joining the CIPP as a full-time trainer in September 2019, Fiona worked in payroll in different organisations for over 9 years including her role as Assistant Group Payroll Manager for Breedon Group Services, the UK’s largest independent construction materials firm. Fiona holds the CIPP Foundation Degree in Payroll Management and the CIPD Diploma in HR Management and uses the knowledge gained in both of these within her training role to ensure that CIPP members have the information, skills and knowledge they need to keep up to date with the ever-changing payroll obligations.
