    Meet the presenters 

     Kate Upcraft, AMBCS, mGPA, Director at Kate Upcraft Consultancy 

    Kate is a regular conference speaker, lecturer and writer on legislative issues, including tax and National Insurance, benefits and the whole range of employer compliance responsibilities. She undertakes consultancy work with employers and payroll agents assisting them with topics such as payroll health checks, national minimum wage and auto-enrolment, systems selection and departmental re-engineering. She is the vice chair of the ICAEW Employment Taxes and NI committee and Chair of the pan-professional Reward and Employment Engagement Forum. Prior to setting up her own company in 2005, she was the Payroll Legislation Manager at M&S, for whom she worked for 20 years, eleven of them in payroll. 

     

    Steve Wade, Associate Partner in the FSO People Advisory Services Practice of EY, is EY’s Employment and Global Mobility Taxes Technical Lead.

    He is also the Chairman of the ICAEW’s Employment Taxes and National Insurance Contributions committee and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Steve has over 30 years of experience of advising multi-national companies and their employees on the tax and social security implications of international assignments.Recently he has been advising employers on PAYE compliance in general and in particular on expatriate issues including regarding Brexit, Short term Business Visitors, the off-payrolling rules and the disclosure of past liabilities.


     P Simon Parsons, Director of payments, Benefits & compliance strategies at SD Worx

    Simon has been a major contributor to SD Worx’s payroll expertise since 1984. Besides being influential in the development of SD Worx’s payroll services, Simon is a major presence on a number of HMRC and government consultative groups and committees. A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals and one of the original Masters of Science in Payroll Management, Simon is a regular author and speaker on payroll matters. He is also Chair of IReeN, the electronic exchange with government user network, and chair of the BCS (the chartered institute for IT) Payroll Group. Simon has won a number of awards in the past, including the Strathearn Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2012 Pay & Benefits Awards, the Payroll Alliance Award for Advancing the Payroll Profession in 2010 and IPP Person of the Year in 2006.

     
    Kevin Waller, Payroll Specialist, Your Payroll Team

    Kevin has been working in the payroll industry for over 13 years in the payroll bureau sector. Kevin founded Your Payroll Team in 2017 as a payroll bureau catering to small businesses and charities providing outsourced payroll as well as training and education. He also founded the Essex Payroll Forum in 2019. Kevin is a member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and the Reward 300 for 2018, 2019. Kevin is a member of the Payroll apprenticeship employer trailblazer groups for levels 3 and 5. 



     Sam Hitchen-Rae, Partnership Director, IFOL

    Sam Hitchen-Rae is Director of Partnerships at The Institute of Financial Operations and Leadership and is responsible for the developing relationships with industry partners and employers.
