Meet the presenters

Kate Upcraft

Kate is a regular conference speaker and writer on legislative issues, including tax and National Insurance, benefits and the whole range of employer compliance responsibilities. She undertakes consultancy work with employers assisting them with topics such as payroll health checks, RTI and auto-enrolment, systems selection and departmental re-engineering.

Prior to setting up her own company in 2005, she was the Payroll Legislation Manager at M&S, for whom she worked for 20 years, eleven of them in payroll.

Kate graduated with the IPPM Diploma in Payroll Management in 1995 and was awarded the Strathearn Award for Lifetime Achievement in the 2005 PAY magazine awards.

Ian Holloway
Head of legislation and compliance at Cintra HR & Payroll Services

Ian has been in the payroll profession for over 30 years, processing payrolls from all sectors, large and small.  He moved from hands-on exposure in 2011 to become involved in educating the profession.  His wide-ranging experience and up-to-date knowledge ensured he was able to impart this information to UK professionals through course material, social media, newsletters and face-to-face presentations.

However, educating the profession cannot be achieved without knowing how the profession works on a day-to-day basis and he realised that a move back to hands-on was essential.  So, today, Ian is involved with a vital aspect of the payroll environment, that of working with the software that actually does a lot of the hard work for the profession.  He is thrilled to be the Head of Legislation and Compliance at Cintra HR and Payroll Services, who constantly demonstrate their commitment to quality and compliant payroll and HR software, support and payroll services.

P Simon Parsons
Director of payments, Benefits & compliance strategies at SD Worx

Simon has been a major contributor to SD Worx’s payroll expertise since 1984. Besides being influential in the development of SD Worx’s payroll services, Simon is a major presence on a number of HMRC and government consultative groups and committees.

A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals and one of the original Masters of Science in Payroll Management, Simon is a regular author and speaker on payroll matters. He is also Chair of IReeN, the electronic exchange with government user network, and chair of the BCS (the chartered institute for IT) Payroll Group.

Simon has won a number of awards in the past, including the Strathearn Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2012 Pay & Benefits Awards, the Payroll Alliance Award for Advancing the Payroll Profession in 2010 and IPP Person of the Year in 2006.
