The city of Corona overpaid employees by about $540,000 for overtime work in the last fiscal year because of an error in payroll software the city purchased in 1999. And Corona may have been paying its workers too much for years, officials say. In a July 30 news release, officials said that the excess payment for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, was revealed during an audit.
An independent auditor will reportedly now determine how many employees were overpaid and by how much, city spokesperson Cindy Solis said. The news release said that city’s review showed that hourly employees were paid from tens to a few hundred dollars extra per pay period. Additionally, Ms Solis said in an email that officials “believe” Corona had overpaid employees in previous years, too. The Press-Enterprise reports the story, with a response from Corona’s Vice Mayor. The city of Corona overpaid employees by about $540,000 for overtime work in the last fiscal year because of an error in payroll software the city purchased in 1999.
