[France] Paris airport staff to strike on July 17
12 Jul 2024

In France, four major unions have called for airport staff at Paris’ two major airports to strike on July 17, less than a fortnight before the capital hosts the Olympic Games, The Connexion reports.

The CGT, CFDT, FO and UNSA unions announced their intention to file a strike motion for that date.

The unions had reportedly previously threatened action throughout the summer period if ADP - management at the Aéroports de Paris which operates both Charles de Gaulle/Roissy and Orly airports - failed to agree to requests.

The unions’ main demands are for airport staff from multiple sectors to receive Olympic bonuses for working during the games – to match those employees in other groups are set to get – and improved working conditions.

Unions said they had “suspended their participation in all forms of meetings with management [at the ADP]” after “a unilateral decision to only offer some, but not all, staff an Olympic bonus”.

At present, it is not known how many flights will be affected or whether another round of strikes will be called later in the month.

However, on July 10 airport management reportedly said flight disruptions should be 'minimal', though delays for people inside the airport may be an issue.

Further information will be released closer to the strike date by unions, the ADP and the French Civil Aviation Authority.

This strike action will not involve air traffic controllers, who previously committed to an ‘Olympic Truce’, and said they will not strike during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
