In the Isle of Man, an investigation has revealed that staff shortages in the government's payroll team led to maladministration, 3FM reports.
Angela Main Thompson - the Tynwald Commissioner for Administration - was asked to investigate payroll issues after a civil servant who held two separate part-time jobs received an unexpected four-figure tax bill.
Ms Main Thompson reportedly found that the Office of Human Resources had failed to tell the worker that they had the right to make a complaint, to disclose the time limit for doing so or inform them how to contact the Commissioner; a breach of its statutory duty.
In addition, the investigation report said that a lack of staff had also led to maladministration.
The commissioner’s findings will be laid before Tynwald - the Parliament of the Isle of Man - in June.
