[UK] Majority of employees unaware of coming flexible working law changes
29 Mar 2024

In the UK, new research suggests that a majority of employers and employees are not aware of a pending change in the law making it easier to request flexible working, Morning Star reports.

The change will be in force from next week.

In separate surveys of 1,000 workers and 1,000 employers, conciliation service Acas reportedly discovered that seven out of 10 workers and four out of 10 employers didn’t know about the change.

The right to ask for flexible working already applies to staff who have worked for their employer for 26 weeks or more. From April 6 this will apply from the first day of employment.

Susan Clews - Acas chief executive - said, “These changes will be coming into force next week and it is important for bosses and staff to be prepared.

“Flexible working can bring many benefits in workplaces and the starting position should be to consider what may be possible.”
