Alabama proposes tax donation scheme to help build Trump’s border wall

Alabama Senate president pro tempore Del Marsh has proposed a Bill that would enable citizens to make tax donations to help towards building President Trump's Mexican border wall.

Under the proposal, if someone wished to donate to We Build the Wall, Inc, they would be able to check a box on their state income tax return and designate however much of their tax return they wished to give, according to WTVY.

We Build the Wall Inc is a non-profit organisation created by air force veteran Brian Kolfage to raise money to build the wall along the US border with Mexico for national security purposes.

Marsh said: “As I talk to people in my district and around the state, border security is the number one thing I hear about. This is obviously an issue that has people very concerned and one that needs to be addressed.”

While he claimed it was “obvious that many people in the Federal government have little desire to address border security”, Marsh believed his proposal was an “easy way for people in Alabama, if they choose, to make a donation in support of building a border wall”.

Trump's border wall plan has polarised Americans, and a party dispute over it recently led to a government shutdown, the longest in history.
