The UK Payroll Administrator Apprenticeship has now been officially “approved for delivery”.
The Institute for Apprenticeship has published the necessary Standard, Assessment Plan and confirmation that the qualification’s funding band is nine on its website.
The new apprenticeship, which lasts for 12 months, is the only payroll qualification that is available at level three, which is equivalent to an ‘A’ level. While other qualifications do exist in the field, this is the only one written by UK payroll professionals specifically for the payroll profession.
It is aimed purely at individuals who intend to study an approved apprenticeship. Despite rumours, there are no plans to enable employers to use Apprenticeship Levy funds to finance training for other employees within the payroll team such as administrators, supervisors and managers.
The Global Payroll Association has asked Ian Holloway from Cintra HR and Payroll Services Ltd, who led the team that developed the qualification, to produce a ‘how to’ guide for employers, which will be made available to support the qualification.
Ian Holloway is head of legislation and compliance at Cintra HR and Payroll Services. He has been in the payroll profession for over 30 years, processing payrolls large and small from organisations across all sectors until 2011 when he started helping to educate the profession by means of course material, newsletters and face-to-face presentations.
