Almost every month, the Department for Work and Pension (DWP) publishes a collection of News and articles from across government for advisers, employers and organisations that help people find jobs. Whilst it is not as essential as the Employer Bulletin or Agent Update, this is still interesting reading as it tells payroll professionals about issues that may be affecting our employees.
September 2019’s edition contains the following articles with links to places for further information which we have replicated in some instances:
- UK State Pension payments for people in European Economic Area states or Switzerland after Brexit
- Advice that Universal Credit claims can be by claimants who do not have a National Insurance Number
- Details of the DWP’s new retirement planning campaign to coincide with Pensions Awareness Week. This includes online links to personalised retirement planning checklists, case studies, a pension calculator and the Check your State Pension service
- Announcement that Scotland have introduced the Funeral Support Payment which replaced the Funeral Expenses Payment on the 16th of September 2019
- Announcement about the Department for Education’s apprenticeship “Fire it Up” campaign with links on how this can be supported
- A news “round up” containing links to the work and health consultation (about sick pay reforms) and the latest press release about wage growth and employment rate in the UK

Readers may want to sign up for gov.uk email alerts for the DWP. Every time that the DWP publish anything, alerts will be sent, though subscribers can chose to have these sent on a weekly basis rather than daily.
A word of warning. Not all DWP updates will be of interest to payroll professionals and there may be as many as 60 per week!
