HMRC’s Calculators and Tools

HMRC’s Calculators and Tools
07 Jan 2019

On the 3rd of January 2019, HMRC issued an email advising that they had updated their list of calculators and tools because the “bereavement guide” had its link removed.

It was a useful email for the Global Payroll Association to remind professionals of the wide range information that can be obtained from HMRC’s calculators and tools.  Located on the gov.uk website, there are links to tools on the following subjects which are useful for UK payroll professionals:

  • Income Tax (estimators for the current and previous tax years)
  • National Insurance (including a directors annual earnings period check)
  • Self-employed (ready reckoner to help budgeting for a tax bill)
  • PAYE (which contains many tools such as calculating tax and NI, maternity and paternity pay)
  • Employment status (linking to the check employment status tool (CEST))
  • Pensions (tools such as requesting GMP calculations and annual allowance)
  • Childcare (re tax relief on childcare costs)
  • Trusts (pool calculator)
  • IR35: working through an intermediary (off-payroll guidance)

There are other tools on the link as well but we really recommend looking at all of the tools and resources under the PAYE section over any other.
