Spring Statement 2019

Spring Statement 2019
04 Feb 2019

On the 29th of January 2019, Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the UK Spring Statement will be held on the 13 of March 2019.  This is all part of the Autumn Statement 2016’s announcement that the UK will have only one “fiscal” event in the year with the all-important Budget being in the autumn and the statement being delivered in the spring.

Although any major payroll changes will be announced at the UK Budget, the Spring Statement is still important as it reviews the UK’s wider economic challenges, which may be Brexit at this time.  The Statement will respond to forecasting by the Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR) and may see consultations launched.

Depending on the OBR forecasts and the challenges ahead, the 2016 announcement still gives the Chancellor room to make changes to fiscal policy in the Spring Statement so this is definitely a date for payroll professionals to put in their diary.
