[UK] Requiring Workers to take Holiday whilst Furloughed
18 May 2020

On the 13th of May 2020, the department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) published guidance entitled “Holiday entitlement and pay during coronavirus (COVID-19)”.  This confirms how holiday entitlement and pay operate during the COVID-19 pandemic.  It is separated into the following topics:

  • Holiday entitlement (the 5.6 weeks)
  • Taking holiday (including bank holidays and the confirmation that employers can require workers to use holiday)
  • Holiday pay (at 100% whilst reclaiming 80% for furloughed workers)
  • Carrying annual leave into future leave years (the split of 5.6 weeks into 4 weeks and 1.6 weeks)
  • Furloughed agency workers

We are pleased to see that this Great British guidance has a link to the Northern Ireland guidance too.  This is very comprehensive and covers more than just holiday leave and pay.
