[UK] Which Tax Code to Use?
30 Mar 2020

One of the most common questions at the start of the new tax year is what tax code should I put a new employee on, bearing in mind that there may be P45s from the previous tax year.

The GPA has put together this document which details the following:

  • Tax code and RTI declaration processes for an “in date” P45
  • Tax code and RTI declaration processes for an “old” P45
  • Tax code and RTI declaration processes for no P45 at all
  • The importance of the starter checklist regardless of whether or not there is a P45

Also, we would like to point out HMRC’s “work out your employee’s tax code” tool on gov.uk.
