[Kuwait] Manpower authority will establish shelter for male expats
21 Aug 2023

On August 20, Kuwait’s Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) announced that it would establish a shelter centre for male expatriates who have legal issues with employers, The Siasat Daily reports.

The decision was announced by Dr Fahad Al-Murad - acting deputy director general for expatriate workers' protection - on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

This new shelter will reportedly be similar to a current shelter provided to expatriate women who decide to leave their sponsors. The women’s shelter offers residents psychological, social, legal and health services during their stay.

Since its establishment in 2014, the shelter has hosted more than 13,000 female workers. In 2023, it took in 960 women labourers, in addition to eight children accompanied by their mothers.

Khaled Al-Ajmi - Board Chairman of the Kuwaiti Human Rights Society - reportedly said in remarks to KUNA that the society had inked an accord with the centre to educate the expatriates about their rights and duties according to Kuwaiti laws.
