[Kuwait] Municipality will terminate services of expats

Kuwait’s Minister of Municipality, Dr Rana Al-Fares, has a three-phase timeline for Kuwaiti jobs in the municipality. The first phase begins with terminating the contracts of 33 per cent of non-Kuwaitis with a notice period that begins on September 1, Arab Times reports.

According to reporting from Al-Qabas daily, this will be followed by a second phase ending another 33 per cent of contracts on February 1, 2023. In the third phase, the notice period will begin on July 1, 2023, and terminate the contracts of the remaining number of expatriate employees.

In a letter addressed to the Director-General of the Municipality, Eng. Ahmad Al-Manfouhi - a copy of which was obtained by Al-Qabas daily - Dr Al-Fares has asked him to provide her with lists of the names of non-Kuwaiti employees in preparation for taking the necessary legal measures to terminate their services within one week.

Exclusions

The letter excluded the following categories: 

  • the non-Kuwaiti employee of a Kuwaiti mother
  • children of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and permanent residents (bedoun), provided they are registered with the Central Apparatus for Illegal Residents’ Status and others as determined by the letter

Dr Al-Fares announced the suspension of all procedures for the appointment of non-Kuwaitis, and the suspension of all transfers of non-Kuwaiti workers between departments and sectors.
