[UAE] 2024 wage rises expected from more than half of employers

According to new research, salaries in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are expected to rise by 4.5 per cent this year, HRO Today reports.

The report - released by Cooper Fitch - revealed that the majority of firms in the UAE are expecting to raise salaries throughout 2024, with more than one-third expecting to raise salaries by more than 5 per cent.  

More than one-fifth of organisations (21 per cent) reportedly expect to lower salaries in 2024 while more than a quarter have no plans to change salaries in the coming year. 

To compile the report, Cooper Fitch surveyed business leaders from more than 1,000 organisations.  

According to its findings, more than half of respondents said they raised salaries in 2023, with around 8 per cent of organisations raising salaries by 10 per cent to retain top talent.  

In addition, the report found that 59 per cent of organisations made headcount changes last year, with 26 per cent expecting a 0 per cent to 5 per cent increase by the end of 2024. More than half (56 per cent) of this year’s respondents reportedly expect their teams to grow in 2024. Twenty per cent are expecting to reduce their headcount.  

When respondents were asked whether they believe there is sufficient available talent in the UAE to meet hiring requirements in 2024, more than a quarter (27 per cent) said there was not. Management and leadership were reportedly the roles with the most significant talent gaps identified, with 16 per cent and 14 per cent of responses, respectively.
