[Mexico] Reform to Federal Labor Law related to digital platforms
16 Jan 2025

In Mexico, amendments to the Federal Labor Law regarding digital platforms were published in late December. These changes take effect 180 days after publication, The National Law Review reports.

The amendments update Federal Labor Law to regulate digital platforms, ensuring standardised labour conditions and rights for gig economy workers.

The changes reportedly introduce new definitions and rules, including flexible work schedules, digital contracts and algorithmic management transparency.

Following their implementation, employers must provide social security, profit sharing and training. Workers will gain union rights and protection against discrimination.

Non-compliance with the new regulations may result in fines for the gig economy platforms. Such fines will have a phased implementation.
